About the project
About House of Rhodri
House of Rhodri is a family history project. It traces descent from Rhodri Mawr, King of Gwynedd, who died in 878, and shares the stories of the people in that line.
What This Project Is
The project has two parts.
- This website is public. It tells the story of Rhodri Mawr and the royal lines descended from him, and gathers stories from the family’s history.
- The family archive is private. It holds the full family tree, records and photographs, and is open to family members only.
Who We Are
House of Rhodri is a family-run history project that brings together our research on the family’s connection to Rhodri Mawr through Cadell’s line. Our aim is to preserve that history for future generations and share the stories behind the names, while being honest about what the records establish and what remains uncertain. The public website explores our historical roots; the detailed tree, family records and recent generations remain in the private members’ archive.
How We Work
Early Welsh history survives partly in contemporary annals and partly in genealogies and traditions written down centuries later. We try to be clear about which is which. Throughout the site, statements are tagged as Documented, Genealogies, Tradition or Inferred, as explained on the Rhodri Mawr page, and we name our sources.
If you think we’ve got something wrong, or know of a source we’ve missed, we’d be glad to hear from you.
The Members’ Archive
The archive is currently open only to family members while we complete our own research and review the records behind the tree.
We plan to open the archive to members of the public in the future, while keeping information about living relatives private. We have not yet set a date for wider access.
If you’re part of the family and would like access now, email us with your name and how you’re connected, and we’ll be in touch.
Your Privacy
This website doesn’t set cookies for visitors or use tracking, and doesn’t load anything from other companies’ servers unless you choose to play a video. It never shows information about living people; that stays in the members’ archive. Read the full privacy notice.
